Scheduling a photoshoot can be exciting, but it can also be a bit nerve-wracking when it comes to makeup, hairstyles and choosing a color scheme! To help ease your mind I have compiled a list of tips for different topics when it comes to your photo session!
Makeup & Hair
Makeup and Hair is used to enhance a persons features. When it comes tophotoshoots, it can definitely change the outcome of our pictures.
Do:
-
Opt for a full coverage matte foundation, and no SPF. Often times SPF in foundation can give off a ghostly face with flash photography. A full coverage matte foundation can keep your look on all day, without any kind of oily residue that can come out in photos.
-
Prime your eyelids and face before applying your makeup. A primer can make sure that your makeup does not slide off, and can allow your makeup to show its true vibrant color.
- Exfoliate your lips and moisturize. Chapped lips are not only painful, but could become the center of your photoshoot! Make sure to exfoliate before a shoot to be able to apply your makeup with ease.
- Contour with a matte bronzer. Sticking with a bronzer with a chocolate brown color would give you the best glow, and illusion of defined cheekbones. Bronzer can help slim your face and help perfect poses at different angles.
- Style your hair the way you would for a night out. The best way to style your hair for a photoshoot is the way you would for a special night. It's always best to look yourself!
Dont's:
- Use a shimmer bronzer. Often times bronzer can be overused, and when it comes to shimmery bronzer it can leave us looking a little bit too shiny.
- Skip primer. Primer is a very important part of makeup, if you do not use it your makeup can mess up in the long run. Skipping this step can promote fine lines, and creases around your makeup.
- Set your makeup with a translucent powder. Translucent powder can distort the color of your foundation, be very wary if you choose to set with this. This type of powder can often leave flashback, which would make you appear a shade lighter than your true skin color. Another option to set with can be a finishing powder that matches your foundation!
- Add too much product to hair. Too much of a certain product can leave your hair feeling crunchy and have it looking too hard for a photoshoot.

Color Schemes
- Mood: Different colors create different moods just depending on the kind of photos being taken. An example of this would be reds and yellows give off a warmth feelings, and green and gray create a passive feeling.
- Color Harmony: A different way to view this is where exactly your photos will be placed. Wether it be in your home, or someone else's, the color harmony has the ability to stand out drastically in a certain location. When choosing specific colors its important to think of the colors of the room that photo will be placed in.
- Aesthetic: In the end everyone wants photos that are visually pleasing. Having too many different colors can be distasteful and throw off the story a photo is trying to tell. Photos make you feel something, let's make sure its a good feeling.
